This Basic Mechanics course is suitable for Senior Phase High School Students S3 to S6

 

The course covers the very basics in mechanics

 

You will learn:

  • Health & Safety
  • How A Garage Business Is Structured
  • Names Of Tools & Their Functions
  • Names Of Car Components & Their Functions
  • How To Change A Wheel
  • How To Carry Out A Vehicle Inspection
  • How To Carry Out A Diagnostic Check
  • How To Modify A Car - You will carry out a modification project, where you come up with ideas to modify a car - maybe underglow, bigger alloys etc... then we help you pick a suitable modification, you create a plan and then carry out the modification yourself, with our guidance.

In addition to the above, we cover:

  • How An Engine Works
  • How A Clutch Works
  • How A Gearbox / Differential Works
  • Driveshafts
  • Wheels And Tyres
  • Tuning

Practical:

This course is designed to incorporate lots of practical work, using tools, working on cars, repairing faults and removing / replacing parts. We also incorporate fabrication, welding, tuning, and building in a safe supervised environment 

 

Skills:

This course will include a range of employability skills, helping you become a better version of yourself. 

 

Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. All we ask is you have an interest in mechanics / engineering. 

Please note: Even if you do not have the desire to be a mechanic when you leave school, this course provides a foundation of knowledge that can be used in everyday life and will help you look after your own car in the future

 

Course Length - 1 Academic Year - August To May

 

Course Hours - 4 Hours Per Week (1 day)

 

Location - Forres, Moray

 

Additional Information - All Tools And Equipment Are Supplied. All Personal Protective Equipment Is Supplied For Use On The Required Day
